Who is suitable for Lithotripsy?
All those patients, whose kidney are functional and don't have any
distal obstruction are suitable candidates for E.S.W.L. This process
is equally effective & successful in whole of urinary system,
whether the stone is lying in Kidney, Ureter or Urinary bladder,
what ever is the composition of stone, Calcium Oxalate, Phosphate,
Triple Phosphate, Uric Acid or Cystine, whether it is radio opaque
or non radio opaque (visible on x-ray or only visible on ultrasound).
There is no age limit for Lithotripsy and it is equally effective
for one-month old infant to hundred-year-old man.
Those patients, in whom, there is reformation of stones after surgery,
or those, who are suffering from hypertension (high blood pressure),
diabetes, hepatitis, having pacemakers or who are unfit for surgery
due to medical or anesthesia risk, are suitable for Lithotripsy
in most of the cases and this miraculous procedure has emerged as
a great blessing and gift of God for them.
As far Gallstones are concerned, only those patients
are treated, who fulfill the selection criteria for gallstone Lithotripsy.
The decision about this is made after assessment of the patient.
